Spirituality & Healing

There are three eras of Medicine:

  1. First Era: Modern allopathic medicine belongs to the first era. It is based on the 17th century logic given by Rene Descartes. It creates dichotomy between mind and body. Mind is "disembodied thought" and body is "mindless machine". Treating a disease is like fixing a part of a machine. Either one repairs the broken part or replaces it. Each part or organ is treated as an independent piece. But, human body parts are interdependent, not independent. The organ specialists, high-tech diagnostic equipment, and 'magic bullet' drugs are markers of this era of medicine.
  2. Second Era: It refers to "Mind-body medicine". It became popular in the 1960s with the advent of meditation, imagery, hypnosis, and biofeedback. Here the aim is to invoke the messenger molecules to accomplish the healing process. Mind and body connect to each other by these messenger molecules. Examples are: Dean Ornish's reversing heart disease, Simonton and siegel's cancer healing by diet, meditation and imagery, and Eugene Peniston's addiction healing by electronic meditation of brain wave feedback.

I will like to emphasize that whatever results are achieved by these methods, will be obtained in a most suitable way in a spiritually evolved person, because there is total transformation of the psyche with complete emptying of the past.

  1. Third era : It refers to "trans-personal medicine". It became popular in 1990s with the advent of group support and spirituality to heal. Examples are: The spiegel study of breast cancer patients at Stanford doubling their longevity by group support, and Randolph Byrd study at San Francisco, proving the power of prayer to heal heart patients.

One should take advantage of all the three eras, because medical research has shown that mind-body healing and the transpersonal process of healing are scientifically validated by proven models.
